efore your first appointment at the bridal boutique, do some research yourself. Browse through magazines and cut out styles of gowns you like. Show them to your bridal coordinator so that she has a better understanding of what you prefer. If you opt for a made-to-measure (MTM) gown, this can help to kick start the sketch of your dream gown. If you are choosing an off-the-rack gown (OTR), this will help her select those that cater more to your interest.
When making or choosing your wedding gown, these are a few points to consider:
What DESIGN? The common ones are Bustier, Off-Shoulder, Spaghetti Straps, Halter-Neck.
What MATERIAL? Typical materials used are Lace, Organza, Satin, etc. Some gowns may be tailored in a mixture of materials.
What COLOR? Usually white, off-white, cream or even pink & champagne.
What ADD-ONS? You can add embroidery, beading, lace or swarovski crystals to your gown as part of the design.
What LENGTH OF TRAIN? Usually for church wedding, a longer train will look more beautiful as you walk down the aisle. Otherwise, opt for a normal train that will be more convenient as you move around.
NICE TIPS TO TAKE NOTE:
1) At every gown fitting, bring the pair of heels hat you are going to wear with your wedding gown.
2) If you are shy about changing in front of the coordinator, you can wear a stick-on silicon bra. This also helps to prevent you from exposing yourself accidentally when trying on an ill-fitting gown.
3) Don't bring too many people with you to gown fitting sessions as too many opinions can confuse you! Keep to about 2-3 people at most, and keep it to people close to you. Usually Hubby, Mum, Sis or Best Friend is enough to give you true advice.
4) Most importantly, go with an open mind! Bear in mind that what you may like initially might not be suitable for you after you try it on. Keep your options open to other designs or recommendations from your coordinator. You may be surprised to see that what you may not have considered at first glance may actually look good on you!
